Agent Smith covers several functionalities specific to the IT infrastructure maintenance. First of all, the solution allows the installation of remote applications, using the HTTP protocol. From the architectural point of view, the application supposes the installation of agent programs on the stations or laptops on which they are managed by Agent Smith. The centralized management is executed using a Web interface, which provides access to all the management functionalities of the solution and to all the related reports.

The program implements various functions for the maintenance of laptops and work stations. Mainly, basic functions for the management of hard disks and IT infrastructure may be executed. Thus, Agent Smith integrates Check Disk functions or for the defragmentation of hard disks. For instance, if a laptop reaches a certain disk fragmentation level, the disk defragmentation operation will be automatically activated without requesting the manager’s intervention.

The web interface allows the implementation of security policies on the IT infrastructure level (firewall rules, monitoring of network connections etc).

The solution has been developed using only Microsoft technologies. Thus, the Web interface of the solution for the centralized management is developed based on the ASP.NET technology, and the other components are developed using the Microsoft .NET Framework and Visual Studio. Also, the database behind the solution is SQL Server.
